A Dramatic New Look for a Dark Basement

A homeowner challenged us to convert a dark below grade basement with some low hanging pipes and only one small window into an inviting living space.
The creative use of recessed ceiling and lighting gives this basement home theatre the impression of having skylights. Columns separate the theatre area from the remainder of the basement. Rich, vibrant, and texturized wall color gives depth to the room. Wall sconces give subdued lighting effects. The traditional movie theatre seats were substituted with more contemporary seating.
The same room with an expanded view allows you to see the sexy curved bar with built-in wine rack. The bar allows for additional seating as well. Walls of mirrors behind the bar open the room up further. The remaining floor space was left open to accommodate the pool table. Soft, neutral carpet completely pulls the design together.
To allow the maximum amount of usable living area and make the space even more distinctive, we also reconfigured the staircase.
